artistic inspirations

this is where i'll host a general collection of different art pieces and stuff that inspire my own art. this is a wip bc i am trying to figure out how to be able to add more containers without it tweaking out!!!!

please click on each image, they will send you to a wikiart, social media page, or other art collection website with information and more works by the artist!

i also have a pinterest board of individual pieces that i really like. not all of them, obviously. i also keep most of my inspirations bookmarked on instagram, twitter, and tiktok when i find them.

Visual Kei

meto from MEJIBRAY

I'm separating visual kei from the other alternative fashion movements so that I can keep it more organized, and because it's a separate thing for me personally. Like other stuff, I've also been into visual kei since middle school. And with gyaru, it also hurts me to see how butchered visual kei has become and how much misinformation there is surrounding it now. Either way, it's one of my biggest inspirations as well. I listen almost exclusively to visual kei (all subgenres) and my most beloved OC's are visual kei inspired. I've gone to 2 Jiluka concerts (taken a personal cheki with them too!). My favorite vkei substyles are tanbi, menhera, wafuu, kote, and loud kei. Meto is one of my main muses, and I tend to draw a lot of characters with his likeness in mind. My honmei is i-san, and I love all of the bands he has been in and draw inspiration from him as well. My daihonmeiban is buck-tick and I have been a huge fan of them since forever because they are the first vkei band I ever listened to. I don't have a lot to say about vkei despite it being my biggest inspiration for years...;_;

Emo/post-hardcore fashion and music

some emo girl

I've identified myself with the emo community for a long time and it has been my true main fashion inspiration. I cut my own hair in the "emo haircut" and listen mainly to emo and post-hardcore rock. Although it doesn't influence my art that much, the music that I listen to does inspire the topics that I draw and inspires my fashion style the most.

Maiko, Geiko, Kabuki + Noh theater, etc.

Maiko with a cat on a train

One of my biggest art inspirations since middle school has been Japanese cultural arts such as maiko and geiko culture, kabuki and noh theater arts, old Japanese artworks (ukiyo-e, oshi-e, etc.), and other cultural fashion. I have been researching Japanese cultural arts for a long time, which includes educational books (my favorite is Geisha, A Life by Mineko Iwasaki.), educational videos and documentaries (I recommend looking into Kabuki-In-Depth on YouTube.), and general exposure to the culture through other media. I avidly collect antique Japanese dolls and I incorporate a lot of the cultural symbolism that I have learned about into my own artworks. I've done a lot of research on fashion movements (particularly the Meiji restoration period, Edo period, and Heian period. And of course the Heisei and Reiwa periods.) in Japan and it has influenced how I dress myself and characters that I draw. I am very passionate about my interest in Japanese culture!!! Ask me anything.....

Lolita Fashion and other alternative JP fashion movements

Old-School Lolita in Baby, The Stars Shine Bright

Along with historical Japanese arts, a lot of my art subjects + topics are inspired by modern JP fashions (and music). I consider myself a lolita, although to be honest I don't have a lot of pieces ;_;.. I do own a few blouses, BTSSB's Lace Frill JSK (proudest accomplishment), and an offbrand gosurori-style skirt. Either way, lolita fashion is one of my main subjects and I love to draw lolitas. I also really love menhera fashion movements (yamikawaii, jirai kei, gurokawa) and movements like pastel goth (aka, spooky kawaii. I do love tumblr's pastel grunge as well, but it's totally different from pastel goth!!). I have also been a big fan of gyaru since middle school, and even though I have never considered myself a gal (though I do proudly own a couple cocolulu shirts), it hurts a lot to see how much misinformation is now spread about the movement, and how the community has been ruined so much. Anyways, gyaru is also something that inspires my art a lot.
